The Successor is the project of imagining and building what comes after the college. Not a plan to save Hampshire — a plan to carry Hampshire forward in a new form. Subcategories break the question into manageable pieces: pedagogy, model, curriculum, land, governance, values, and the questions we’re still sitting with.

About this site itself: how it’s run, how we moderate, how to use it well, and the welcome path for new members.

Read-mostly. Major updates from the stewarding team and the working groups: new threads we want everyone to see, votes opening, gatherings being called, decisions made. Replies welcome but we keep the signal tight.

The active work. Each subcategory is one working group’s home base — agendas, drafts, decisions, action items, blockers. If you want to participate, post; if you want to follow along, watch the category. Working groups are open by default.

The record. Div III archives, faculty methods, alumni stories, news coverage of the closure and the moment, and the broader memory of what Hampshire was and did. We will need this to know what to keep.

The social tissue. Class notes, regional hubs, field notes from people doing Hampshire-shaped work in the world, and a Reconnect channel for finding each other after the diaspora.

The practical layer of taking care of each other: jobs, housing, mentorship, and direct mutual aid. Hampshire taught us interdependence — this is where we live it.

The persistent reference shelf. Source documents, meeting notes, and the archive of older threads we want to keep findable. If something belongs in long-term memory rather than active conversation, it goes here.

Open questions the community is wrestling with — the ones that don’t fit cleanly into one working group. Post yours. Other people will arrive with answers, partial answers, and better questions.
